Valentine's Day Gift Guide: Him
I know the holidays just ended, but Valentine’s Day is almost upon us… for some couples this means romance, chocolate, gifts, a day to celebrate love, for others it means being extra nice or saying “I love you” one more time before you fall asleep, and for still others it means absolutely nothing… (note: if it were up to Keith we would absolutely fall within the third category, but as it is we strike a compromise, which is that we don’t usually buy each other gifts, but we do try to plan a nice dinner or just acknowledge that we are supposed to be loving on each other that day lol)… anyways, no matter what camp you fall into, this list may be helpful because, let’s face it, guys are SO HARD to shop for, all days of the year.
It doesn’t seem to matter what stage of life I’m at, or how well I know the men in my life, when it comes time to buy them a gift I feel like I am totally out of my depth. In case you are also struggling with gifts for the gents in your life I decided to put together a little gift list, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner I felt like this was as good of time as any to put it up.
Note, I tried to get Keith’s input on what he would want as a gift and his ideas were just…interesting. He insists that they are things guys would actually want, so I included them at the end under “Keith’s List,” but just know that I do not endorse this list, nor do I generally purchase these types of items for Keith.
All Birds - $95
All Birds makes the MOST comfortable runner ever. I own a pair and I am obsessed. So obsessed that I used to rarely wear tennis shoes, but I have found myself reaching for these constantly. They are supportive, breathable (despite being made out of wool), and stylish at the same time. They also come in a variety of colors and styles, the dark grey pictured above are my favorite for men. P.S. I am adding these to my Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for Her as well, gift them to yourself or send the link to your SO - you won’t regret it.
These are an investment, but they are life changing. Especially if the man in your life travels often. Keith has had a pair for a couple of years now, and was constantly raving about how amazing they were, but I was never convinced that they were worth it….that is until we were together on a 6 hour flight with a baby directly behind us who screamed for about 90% of the trip. I kept looking over at Keith desperate for the screaming to stop and he was just wearing his headphones laughing away to his movie, totally unfazed. I was wearing standard-issue Apple ear pods and couldn’t turn up my volume loud enough to even partially tune out the noise around me. After that trip we had our honeymoon quickly approaching and I knew there was no way I was going to take 9 (yes, 9) flights over the course of 2 weeks and risk running into a similar scenario. So I splurged on the headphones, and they have been worth every penny. They are wireless, the charge lasts SUPER long, once dead they charge back up in around 10-20 minutes, and they truly cancel out all unwanted background noise. The only negative I have run into so far is if I wear these in my office I can’t hear when people knock or walk in, and I have almost peed my pants numerous times when I looked up and someone was standing right in front of me….so noise cancelling maybe not the best for the office.
Subscription to MeUndies - $16/month
I bought Keith a subscription to MeUndies for his birthday, and he LOVES it…and that’s saying a lot because he doesn’t generally love any gift. The pricing isn’t super clear on their website, but usually a pair of undies is $24. If you sign up for a membership each pair is $16. With the membership you get one pair per month, and you get the choice to customize each pair before they ship (they have a variety of styles and patterns, and they change patterns monthly). You can also skip a month or cancel anytime without penalty, so it doesn’t seem like there is much of a reason not to do the subscription unless you just don’t want to deal with a reoccurring monthly commitment (DISCLAIMER: I have not attempted to skip a month or cancel. I know sometimes companies say they are easy to cancel and then give a ton of grief when you actually try. I haven’t heard that complaint about MeUndies, but just wanted to put it out there). The actual underwear seem to be super soft and comfy, and the fact that your man gets to pick his pattern/style every month is nice, too.
Sonos Speakers - $199 for a Sonos One
If you haven’t heard of Sonos yet, you’re welcome. These speakers are made to link up all over your house so that if you’re cleaning, hosting, or just hanging out you can have the same (or different, if you choose) music/TV sound playing all throughout the house. They are pricey, but the sound quality is amazing. I got Keith a couple of the Sonos Ones (linked above) for Christmas and they were a big hit. We want to get the soundbar to link to the TV next.
Indoor Putting Course - $69.99
If your man likes to golf, an indoor putting course or chipping net is a great gift. I bought one for Keith recently because every time we are at one of his friends’ houses who have one he spends the whole time we are there hitting balls…it seemed time to get him his own. You can get these at many different price points and with a variety of functions, e.g., some return the ball back to you, some are wide while others are very skinny, etc. etc. The one I linked here is reasonably priced and is good for putting practice….bonus: we have used it as a drinking game before, and that was also fun.
Wood Watch - This one on sale for $120 (down from $170)
I got Keith a wood watch back when we were dating and he really liked it, and I loved the look of it so much that I got my Dad one this Christmas as well. I wasn’t sure how he would feel about it, but he was actually really excited and wears it now all the time. I love that they are a casual, but nice-looking alternative to a fancy metal watch, and that you can personalize them as well. I really like the one I linked above, but there are TONS of them out there, just Google “wood watches.”
I think these are pretty cool and a good way to show your loved one that you were thinking about them and something they might want. The link above is to Uncommon Goods, which has a variety of options for stadium blueprints, but if you google stadium blueprints or ski resort blueprints there are tons of different options on there for style, size, price point, etc. I got my Dad a framed blueprint of Tiger’s stadium a few years ago and he loves it. Keith wouldn’t be as into a stadium blueprint, but when I came across the ski resort idea I thought that would be perfect for him.
Sous Vide - $79.99
If your man loves to cook this is a really cool little kitchen gadget that he (and you) will appreciate. I don’t own one personally, but my friends do (shout out to Rob & Kristina for the amazing food and inspiration), and this thing makes meat just perfectly. I don’t know the exact science behind it, but you are essentially cooking your meat in a sealed bag in water until it is the perfect temperature. You can finish off by throwing it on the grill to get the char you’re looking for, but it makes meat that is so tender and done just perfectly. Keith and I will definitely grab one for ourselves once we are settled, but thought I would throw this on the list for any of you lucky people out there with men who cook.
Lulu Lemon Work Pants - $128
Not much needs to be said here. Lulu Lemon makes work pants for men and they are ridiculously comfortable, good looking, and they hold up forever. Also, in case you didn’t know this already, Lulu Lemon offers free hems on all of their clothes when you purchase….that’s including your leggings - take them up on it. Note: they have two different styles of pants that are dressier for men, the Commission and the ABC. I like them both, but the Commission is pictured here.
Catoctin Creek Whiskey - $36.99
This is Keith’s current favorite whiskey (I really love it too)….and who doesn’t like a nice bottle of booze as a present? He won’t be mad about this one, promise.
Keith’s List - I am not going to link to these things because most of them you can just pick up at Home Depot…but here they are.
